About the Ohio County Clerk's Office
The Ohio County Clerk's Office is charged with maintaining public records, such as: deeds, deeds of trust, leases, releases, military discharge records, births, marriages, and deaths. The office also takes applications for marriage licenses. In Ohio County, the County Clerk is the probate judge, recording and probating wills, filing assessments and settlements.
Vital Statistics
Please note: West Virginia is not an "open record" state. Therefore, restrictions apply as to who may obtain a birth, marriage and/or death certificate.
Applying for a Marriage License

An issued marriage license must be used within the State of West Virginia within 60 days of the application. Couples must appear together at the Clerk's Office and provide several applicable documents. Please see marriage license requirements here.

Fiduciary and Probate
Ohio County is the only county in West Virginia in which the County Clerk oversees fiduciary and probate matters. Those wishing to administer an estate must appear in person with legal counsel. Please follow this link for more information.
