Winter Weather Advisory for Sunday, January 19, 2025

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Adviosry for our area, with a 90% chance of snowfall exceeding 1" of accumulation with a small possibility of accumulation of to 5".

The National Weather Service has also issued a Cold Weather Advisory for our area from now through Wednesday monring.  Wind chills as low as -20F to -25F are expected.  The NWS makes the following recommendations during periods of extreme cold: 

  • Adjust your schedule:  avoid being outside unless absolutely necessary, and then avoid being outside during the coldest parts of the day, usually morings.
  • Protect pets, livestock, and other property:  if you have pets for farm animals, make sure they are not overly exposed to extreme cold and have plenty of food and water that is not frozen.  Take precautions that water pipes do not freeze.
  • Full up the tank:  make sure your car or vehicle has at least a half tank of gasolie during extreme cold so taht you can stay warm if you become stranded.
  • Dress for the outdoors even if you dont think you'll be out much.
  • Update your Winter Car Survival Kit, which should include:  jumper cables; flashlights; first aid kit; baby gear; medical supplies; food; water; basic toolkit; pet supplies, radio, cat litter; shovel; ice scraper; clothes; warmers; blankets; and a charged cell phone.
